The Jazz Estate is bringing back Jerry Grillo for his 75th Birthday Show. He swears it’s 62, but we think that’s a lie.
Mr. Grillo’s professional career spans 50 years with appearances throughout the United States and Europe. He has always been compared to Sinatra, but in his later years, Tony Bennett. From Broadway to Pop to Jazz and Big Band, Jerry has sung most genres of music. His last 25 years have been devoted to The Great American Songbook.
Jerry began his professional career with an appearance in “George M” in New Haven, Connecticut. That same summer he was a guest performer at the Village Vanguard in New York and performed in Cabaret shows in Greenwich Village.
Mr Grillo returned to Milwaukee to teach in Milwaukee Public Schools and sing with the band, Sweet Earth. He was a model for the Arlene Wilson Agency in the 80’s and began studying jazz vocal in 1992 with Jackie Allen at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
Jerry was the lead Vocalist for The Nick Contorno Orchestra in the 90’s and was the booking agent and singer for Angelo’s Piano Lounge until it closed.
His career includes many albums
and appearances throughout Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, Prauge, and Italy. He has performed and recorded with most of Milwaukee’s seasoned musicians and appeared at just about all of Milwaukee’s clubs and festivals, including numerous appearances at Jazz In The Park and Summerfest.
He has been writing his own songs as of late, writing poetry, and painting. He is currently appearing at The Jazz Estate, Blu, Transfer, and The Cheel, and refers to himself as being semi-retired. This last year he wrote and recorded his first Christmas song, “Where Was Christmas?”
